When you think about the negative, you are bound to fail. When you think about the positive, you are bound to succeed.

OH WOW…. You know… I hear about this often, and I always take it and say, “yes… yes… that’s so true… think about the good.” I take it and change my mindset and try to think positively. Most of the time I think about these in terms of my business. I CAN do this, I CAN succeed… I will not fail…. I am good enough to make this business work.”… but it’s funny how sometimes real life throws things at you and it takes a very personal moment to see how this isn’t just about business, but life in general as well.

Story time… Tuesday was an emotional day for me. Like full on tears… and I’m pretty sure it was hormonal because it just came and came and came and I wasn’t sure what it was from.

I was in the middle of a texting round with my family trying to figure out how to spend time with my dad on his birthday. It was a BIG round of texting and started to kind of stress me out.. but, whatev…. I was fine. Then my husband came in and started talking to me about what was happening and I broke down in tears… like legit tears. It wasn’t because of the texting, but a comment he made, that made me look at him and wonder how we could be so very different in how we think. He was being so passionate about something that I didn’t understand… and I realized in that moment that I didn’t understand my husband as well as I wanted to, and that I was going to FAIL him.

Yes.. fail him. I knew that what he was talking about meant so much to him that if I didn’t do this one thing when the time came, he would be utterly disappointed. It’s something that I wouldn’t even have thought of and it made me scared to think that I wouldn’t have thought twice… and then I would have failed him.

AHA moment

In crying and talking, I came to the realization that I WANT to please my husband and I WANT to do things for him, but I struggle with what to do because we are so different. The things that he likes are so different than the things that I like.. we look at life so completely different and the little things matter differently to each of us. In that moment… I had complete fear come over me… I WAS GOING TO FAIL HIM. I KNEW IT. THERE WAS NO WAY AROUND IT. I WAS GOING TO FAIL MY HUSBAND. I was going to make him think that I don’t care for his feelings, but I wouldn’t realize it because for me that little thing didn’t matter, but for him it was HUGE.

Can I just tell you how horrible this made me feel? I don’t like to fail… I dont like to disappoint people… when I disappoint people I just want to cry. I don’t mean to disappoint people… I really don’t… but I do… I do all the time…. and it sucks.

We talked this through more in our kitchen, and I continued to cry and tried to get out of my funk…. but I couldn’t. I couldn’t kick it. So, I did what I always do… and went away… and started working again.

A little later, Jamie came in and we talked more. He told me how much he loves me and how I won’t fail him.. and how much he knows that I really do TRY to do things for him in love. It helped… I cried again.

Then he said the words above… the words that I needed to hear… that I needed to remind myself of.

Think Positive

It’s not just business, it’s life. It’s marriage. It’s motherhood. It’s friendships.

I need to stop allowing the fear of failure, even in my marriage, control my emotions. YES, I am going to fail. I am going to forget something really important that is going to make him sad…. but hopefully I won’t forget next time??? And if I do forget next time again (because I have a really bad memory)… then I am going to make it up to him again and again, and let him know how much I love him.

Don’t allow fear of failure and negative thinking ruin your day… your week.. your year… your life. Think positively and you will succeed… it will happen. Walk in the light… walk in the positive… and see how your life will change.. how your mindset will change.

Beachbody Health Bet – Earn money while getting healthier.

I love a little competition, but I really love it when I win no matter what and don’t have to put money into a pot to win. I’m the person who goes to Vegas, and doesn’t play the slots or tables, because I don’t want to loose money… So… when, I hear of a way to make money, doing something that is pretty simple and easy, I jump at it!!!

Why PIYO is a perfect program to pair with your gym (like Orangetheory), or your running workout.

I totally love Beachbody workout programs…I really do. I think they are amazing; they work, and if you do them (and stick with them), you will see results… killer results. Yet, I know that I’m not alone in that I really really love my gym (Orangetheory) and running (sometimes a little yoga too). Right now Cross fit, Orange Theory, running clubs, Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Spinning, and so many other programs are addictions to people (and I LOVE all these outlets and different things we can do to stay in shape).

As many of you know I LOVE, like truly LOVE, Orangetheory. I love to go to a gym, to have a trainer kick my butt and push me to go harder. I grew up playing sports… I grew up working out and being pushed by a coach… I was told what to do and pushed to go harder if I was slacking. That kind of stuff motivates me… like really motivates me. Some of us need this… some of us need a person to push us… and that’s OK!!!

For those who don’t like going to the gym, have a crazy schedule and can’t seem to fit a workout in, or who are motivated on their own, the Beachbody workouts are perfect. They are 30 minutes a day, you can do them at any time during the day from the comfort of your home, and there are so many to choose from. They really are ideal… but how does Beachbody work for those of us who, like me, like our gym or who are runners???

This was my battle… being a Beachbody coach I NEED to know these workouts and have an idea of what they are, and what works, so that I can help others do them… while I have done some of the workouts in a lot of the different programs, and really do know that they are legit, I’ve never finished a Beachbody workout, so my husband challenged me to complete a full workout program from beginning to end (he’s already completed The Masters Hammer and Chisel and is finishing 22 Minute Hard Corps). So, I thought about how I can do both Orangetheory, train for a half marathon, and fit in time for another program (without killing my body)…. So I opted to try PIYO.



Let me tell you… I am sooooo thankful that I gave PIYO a try. PIYO is actually perfect for someone like me. I workout pretty hard core. I push myself really hard at Orangetheory – I lift hard, I row hard, I run hard and I try to always improve… lately though I have felt like I’ve been at a plateau… I haven’t been able to push my body as hard as I want.. I’ve been tired and exhausted during workouts and haven’t been able to run as hard. I also have been getting somewhat injured… my legs have been tight, I’ve had IT band issues and my hip and groin have locked up. I’ve been seeing a chiropractor and a corrective specialist almost every week for almost a year just to keep my body going. It’s been a lot of work trying to kick my body into shape.

About 3 weeks ago I started PIYO. I get up at 4:45 am every morning (well sometimes I actually roll out of bed at 5, because 4:45 is a curse word in my mind), and I pull up Beachbody on Demand on my iphone and stream PIYO to my bedroom TV (can I tell you how much I love Beachbody on demand – I hate DVD’s). I pull out my yoga mat and spend 20-30 minutes doing PIYO. PIYO is a mix between Pilates and Yoga, so it’s strength with your own body weight (Pilates) and stretching (Yoga). By 5:30/5:45 my workout is done… kids are still asleep and I feel great; I feel stretched, strong, and feel like the entire day is ahead of me.

After I get the kids going and to school, I then head into Orangetheory and do my normal training. At first I thought I was crazy trying to double up, but honestly, it’s been amazing. My running has improved and my lifting has improved.. Why?? Because I’m taking time to warm up my body and stretch out my body before I go and kill my body with an intense workout. Honestly, if you are doing hard workouts, you should be doing stretching for about 20-30 minutes each day anyways to keep your body in check. I have been able to jump on a treadmill and run harder than I ever have because I’m taking time to stretch my body out properly before I run. I’m stronger, because the strength training in PIYO is amazing. The other day I was able to do some crazy pushups at Orange Theory in the TRX straps, that no one else around me was doing… people commented that it was amazing.. Honestly, I thank PIYO for that… I feel the strength I’ve gained in the last 3 weeks has helped push me further in some of the little things. I truly believe that PIYO is such a good compliment to Orangetheory and for any of you who do Orangetheory and want to see improvement, I challenge you to grab this program and try it out.

One other thing… I haven’t had to go to my chiropractor or corrective specialist in over 3 weeks… while I still will continue to go every once in awhile, the stretching and strength that PIYO is giving me is exactly what my body is needing in order for me to keep pushing hard. I’m a believer!!

piyoI still have 5 weeks left to finish this program and I’m so excited to see the change that is going to occur.

Why do I write this post? Because I know a lot of you are doing “other” programs and aren’t totally sure about this Beachbody thing…. And that’s ok, I get it…. But, I promise, that these programs work. PIYO has been perfect for me because it’s what my body needs to continue to go to the gym and push hard… Jamie did Hammer and Chisel because he’s a runner, and has always focused on running and never has done strength training… because of his Hammer and Chisel he was able to train less in his running and still get a PR in his ½ marathon. While he has always been able to run, his body needed the strength aspect – he doesn’t have time to go to the gym, so Hammer and Chisel at home has been PERFECT for him.

As an athlete you have to find balance in your workouts… you need stretching, running, strength training… it’s great to find a program that you can supplement with in your normal workout…. It will help you get better if you find that balance.

I would love to talk to you about what program might work for you where you are at now. If you are just starting in your health journey, let us help you start… with accountability and a group of people helping you out, I promise you can do this. If you are already an athlete and have a good grasp of things, let’s chat because this might be what you need to push you to the next level.

I love these programs… I am a true believer in what they do and I have seen our challengers (including Jamie and me) see HUGE results with them. It’s attainable and realistic. You can do this!

Quinoa, Butternut Squash, and Brussel Sprout Salad

We are big big fans of roasted veggies and pretty much make them every night. Jamie has never been a vegetable fan and didn’t eat veggies until about a year ago when I started this journey. He’s always been very hesitant, but when he realized that you can eat veggies and they actually taste good, our life changed for the better.

Lately we’ve been loving Quinoa and I’ve made some yummy salads. The other night I decided to try to make up a new one that didn’t have lots of dressing and only used a few ingredients. This was SOOO easy and so very yummy.

Now, I do have to apologize, because I’m not one to measure things out, so I will give you a general idea of what to do, but you are going to have to season it to your own taste!! Deal?? Ok, great!

Start off with Butternut Squash.

I’m a minimalist and and need things to be fast. When I first started using butternut squash I actually used one that I had to cut up and peel. It took forever and I swore I would never do it again. So, when I saw this 2 lb box of already cut up butternut squash at Costco I grabbed it and did a happy dance.

We used the entire 2 lb box, so if you are cutting it up on your own, good luck and have fun!:)

  1. Take your squash and put it into a bowl.
  2. Grab some avocado oil and drizzle onto the squash. Again, if you are a measuring type, grab out some measuring spoons and go for it. I just make sure that everything is coated with a drizzle (don’t go crazy and do way too much)
  3. Season with Sea Salt, Garlic, and Pepper

Parchment paper is your best friend when roasting veggies, so grab a bunch and keep it in the pantry. Cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper and spread out the veggies.

Brussel Sprouts

Again, I need things to be fast. We use the Shaved Brussel Sprouts at Trader Joes. They are inexpensive and already done for you. Just dump the bag into a bowl and do the same thing that we did with the Butternut Squash. Simple, easy.2016-01-02 18.40.01_TeamJarmanBlog

Bake at 400 for 35-45 minutes

We like our veggies to be crispy, so we usually start everything at 40 minutes and then add from there. In this instance the brussel sprouts were down around 40 minutes and the Butternut Squash took about 50-55 minutes.

I’m in love with this organic red Quinoa at Trader Joes. It cooks soft and perfect every time. It’s moist and has a great flavor. I followed the directions on the back of the bag. I believe it was one cup of Quinoa.

Raw Almonds

I wanted a little crunch to the salad, so I took about 1 cup of raw almonds and put them into my dry container Vitamix. I chopped it up to slivers and then set them aside.

Cook veggies until they are crispy to your liking

Our daughter calls these scorpions because we cook them so crispy and they look like we are eating dried scorpions. Here in Arizona we have a scorpion problem, so we get a laugh out of this… please don’t let this scare you though, because they are super yummy and my daughter will even eat them!

Put it all together

Get a pretty bowl and start adding it all together. I started with the Quinoa, added the brussel sprouts, butternut squash, and nuts. Mix them all together.

You don’t need any sauce because the Quinoa should be super moist (if cooked right), and the veggies should have great flavor from the avocado oil and the seasonings.

I’ve eaten this all week and actually just put some of it on my pizza that I made tonight….It wasn’t too bad!

The first night we ate this warm, but after that we just ate it as a cold salad and it was great every single time. It makes a pretty good batch, so you can meal prep this on Sunday and eat it all week.
