Sugar is as addictive as Cocaine

When I realized this truth it changed everything for me. I looked back on my life and saw my addiction with sugar and realized that it was all true…. although I have never been a drug addict, I was fully addicted to sugar and had never been able to kick the habit.

I’m a HUGE cake fan… like, give me a cake that tastes amazing and I can eat the entire thing by myself – no joke. Many times after birthday parties we would have leftover cake in our house – Jamie could always so no… sugar isn’t his thing and he can say no to sweets all day long… they will just sit on the counter and he’ll forget about them… whereas for me… they call my name all day long – So with the leftover cake, It would sit in our fridge and no one would eat it but me. The problem is I wouldn’t just eat a bite, i’d find myself gorging on it and eating huge bites at a time.

When I was pregnant with Kaiden I would sit and eat an entire gallon of Chocolate Peanut Butter ice cream in one sitting. I couldn’t stop myself. I was full on addicted.

When I started this journey, I was challenged to cut out all processed foods and sugar. I wanted change so bad and no one had ever challenged me to do this, so I went for it. I went for 24 days without sugar and while it was hard at first, after those 24 days I didn’t crave it as much and I could say no.

As with an addict, in anything, you sometimes have to go extreme. Someone who has a problem with alcohol can’t allow alcohol back into their lives… it just won’t work. Those who are addicted to drugs, can’t put themselves in situations with drugs around. They have to say no. In my own journey I had to go extreme. I had to say not to sugar… I cut it out of my life and didn’t falter… I said no… and my life changed. The weight dropped, the cravings stopped, the necessity for sugar stopped. It was freeing.

Now, that I’ve been on this journey for about 18 months, I have allowed myself to eat tiny little bites of sugar every once in awhile, but I find that if I do, the cravings start coming back and I have to be very careful or I could fall back in to where I was… and that is not an option.

If found my weakness and eliminated it and I am so thankful. I’m thankful that I was challenged to get rid of the sugar and that I didn’t falter and that I stuck it out.

Where are you with sugar? Is it a downfall for you? If so, I challenge you to treat it as you would any other addiction and get it out of your life. Get help, get accountability, and go cold turkey. I promise you will see results and you will find freedom.

Why I became a beachbody coach

When I first signed up to become a beachbody coach it was honestly because of the discounts; I was on my own journey and I didn’t have a lot of time to help others on their journey. I wasn’t even sure if I could be successful with what I was trying to do, since I had failed so many times in the pas; and even though it’s always been a desire of mine to help others, the thought of teaching others to eat healthy when I didn’t know how to eat healthy was scary. So, when I signed up I did it for the discount of shakeology and access to OnDemand. Also, if friends did ask about what I was doing and wanted to order shakeology from me, I could help them with that and would get a little money doing so – win win bonus!

One of the things I love the most about being a coach with Beachbody is that there isn’t a huge initial cost. I’ve done other programs where I had to pay a large amount of money and buy a bunch of stuff to get the “discount”, but with beachbody it’s a one time fee of $39.95 (but this is waived is you sign up with your initial purchase of a challenge pack). Each month there is a small fee to continue being a coach, but if you are using shakeology each month the savings far outweighs the monthly fee.

Let me break it down in a simple way that helped me to understand this.

To me, this made sense. If I was going to be drinking Shakeology, I might as well as pay less to do it right?

Getting Paid

Ok, so here is one of the exciting parts about being a coach…. If you do decide that you would love a little extra cash, being a coach helps you to do that. You can help people in their fitness journey’s and get paid via beachbody doing so. Now that I’ve seen how beachbody works and truly believe in what they are doing, I am super excited to come along and help others in their fitness goals. I know this system works and is proven, and while I’m helping people, I’m also going to be getting paid to do so.

If you choose to go this route and let this system become a business for you, you aren’t alone. There is some amazing training out there and we are here to help guide you along the way as well. We want you to succeed in this!!

I do it for my family

My family is my everything. They always have been my everything and always will be my everything. It’s interesting though, as I look back on my life over the last 12 years, how I had things so backwards when it came to loving my family. Let me explain….

I have always put my family first. I’ve felt guilty about being a working mom and being away from my kids, so when it came time to exercise I could never find time to do it because I didn’t want to be away from my kids any more than I had to. Same thing with my husband; He would come home from work and I would want to spend time with him, so I wouldn’t want to leave to go workout, or even do a workout video from home because it would cut into the time we had together. So, my family came first and my health quickly went out the window.

The problem with this mindset is that it is totally backwards. Yes, I need to find time to spend with my kids and my husband.. that is so very very important, but what I didn’t realize is that my being unhealthy was actually hindering my relationship with my kids and my husband. When your not in shape it’s really hard to keep up with your kids; you also don’t have a lot of energy by the end of the day and are too exhausted to do anything. When it came to my husband I hated the way I looked and my confidence in being a
wife and a partner was at a super low. I never had energy to have “alone” time with my husband and when we did get intimate I didn’t like what I looked like and he could tell that I wasn’t enjoying anything.. it was more of a chore. (Maybe that’s TMI, but ladies… it’s true right?)

It took me too long to realize that I needed to put myself first in my health because by doing so it would
benefit all those around me. I would have more energy and have more confidence.

I write all of this because I know that so many of us women deal with this. It’s in our DNA to be there for our kids and we feel so guilty when we aren’t there, but your health is all that really matters because you want to be around for  your kids and yes, you want your marriage to be amazing.

So it’s time that we started thinking about ourselves and our own health to save our families.2015-11-27 10.55.43_TeamJarmanBlog

I’m so thankful things changed because now I do have energy to run around and chase my kids and my husband thinks i’m sexy… it builds confidence when he comments on how toned my body is looking.

I build my “me” time in each day to workout. I make sure I eat healthy and my family eats healthy. By giving me that “me” time i’m a happier person all the way around.

I challenge you to do the same. Find time for yourself… find time to love your family by being healthy yourself. You can do it!

Teaching by example

My daughter loves to be active. She does triathlons, plays soccer, and loves to ride her bike. However, if we let her, she would sit at home every day and all day and just watch movies. She’s a movie buff and loves netflix. I’ve realized that I have to teach her to love being outside and love working out. While she still complains that she HATES running, she does love hanging out with me when I run. She is my running buddy and will go in the jogging stroller with me, ride her bike next to me, or head to the track with me while I run. She will also hang out at Orange Theory with me if she doesn’t have school and I have to get to the gym. Many times she’s got her iPad and is watching a movie or playing a game, but the point is she’s seeing me be active and it’s being engraved into her head that being active is good.

We have conversations all the time about nutrition and fitness and I’m trying to teach her early the importance of being healthy.

It’s not easy at all, but it’s worth it.

So lead by example. Take your kids with you on your run, let them watch you do your beachbody workout, let them be a part of your fitness journey. Soon one day they will be asking to join you and participate. Start early so they don’t have to deal with what we have to deal with. Leave a legacy.

Clean Eating Cookies

I’m a huge fan of pinterest for recipes. The other day I had to go to a cookie swap and I wanted to bring a healthier type of cookie. Reason #1 – I knew that I would want to eat them while I was making them and so I needed it to be semi healthy. Reason #2 –  this is my lifestyle now and I don’t want to hand out things that I wouldn’t eat myself. So, I scoured the internet for the perfect “Clean” Cookie.

I’m also a huge fan of Peanut Butter, so when I saw these Raw, Vegan, Salted Peanut Butter Cookies I about died. YES PLEASE!!!

I tried them as the recipe and they were super yummy, but I wanted a little more to them so I added some oats and some dark chocolate chocolate chips. I’m not sure how all the ladies at the cookie swap liked them, but my entire family has gone crazy over them.

I will say, they were a little inconsistent in making them, so you will have to play around with the texture a little bit, but they still turned out amazing every time!!

ENJOY!!!
